I had seen a video of Indonesia’s football crazed-culture on YouTube a few months ago, including of its violent ultras. I was a bit surprised by the whole video. I had thought that Indonesia didn’t have much of a football culture given its lack of success internationally.

I would love to see Indonesia in the 2026 World Cup. The Indonesian people deserve to see their football at the world’s preeminent tournament.

Yeah they have a lot of hardcore fans. Many Indonesians don’t consider it safe to goto a game at all - perhaps for good reason as there was an awful stadium disaster in the last years - whereas in Western Europe going to a football game is pretty normal for all parts of society. English premier league is followed very closely in Indonesia - I remember seeing many Liverpool players faces advertising noodles on billboards at the side of the road near Jakarta airport.

I’ve met a lot of Indonesians that are huge fans of Manchester City. Pretty interesting stuff.

I read a post that you had made about this article being a flop, but I personally thought that it was good and something that warrants a deeper look into. Thanks for that!
